Our K2 Program is dedicated to being outdoors for over half the day! We are a tech-free program under age 8. (We practice “wait until 8” for screens!) We do direct instruction in Orton Gillingham Literacy, Jo Boaler & You Cubed Math explorations as well as science and art in our new Project Based curriculum. We have direct Instruction in Social Emotional Learning. Intro to Project Based Learning for 1st & 2nd grade in afternoons.

We have multiple teachers navigating alongside this crew. One teaches OG literacy, one teaches math, one teaches Social Thinking and a fourth teacher embeds Project Based Learning, art, music, science and woodworking into the classroom.

Our grades 1 & 2 have 8-10 students and our kindergarten has between 5-6 students for those early literacy and math skill years. We use mixed age classrooms and differentiate during Math, Literacy and Social Thinking curriculums.

Our school uses the outdoors as the springboard for so much of our curriculum! Our K2 students spend at least half their day outdoors, exploring, learning and playing. While there is much focus given to student-to-student interactions, the Orton Gillingham literacy program offers peer to peer, small group and even one on one time with the teacher.

We use an early childhood model that resembles themes from Montessori and Waldorf schools of thought. We combine these with teacher Project Based Learning professional development and an innovative curriculum that helps children to develop the cognitive, social-emotional, self-regulatory, and foundational academic skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.
